Botswana Telecommunications Corporation Limited (BTC), a leading Botswana Stock Exchange listed company, is at the forefront of delivering cutting-edge Information and Communications. As BTC accelerates its growth and digital
transformation strategy, the company seeks to appoint an exceptional and internationally experienced Chief Technology & Information Officer (CTIO) to join the Executive Team and provide strategic leadership of the organisation’s
technology, network and IT agenda.
 
This is a pivotal executive leadership role with responsibility for shaping and executing BTC’s technology strategy and building the infrastructure, platforms and capabilities required for the next generation of telecommunications and
digital services. The CTIO will lead the transformation and optimisation of BTC’s network and IT environment, strengthen operational resilience and cybersecurity, drive technology-enabled innovation and ensure that technology investment
delivers measurable commercial and customer value.
 
Key Accountabilities:
  • Technology Strategy & Transformation: Define and execute an integrated technology, network and IT strategy aligned with BTC’s business growth and digital transformation ambitions.
  • Network Leadership & Modernisation: Lead the design, deployment, optimisation and evolution of fixed, mobile, broadband and data infrastructure, including the transition towards next-generation technologies.
  • IT & Digital Platforms: Drive modernisation of enterprise IT, OSS/BSS, cloud and digital platforms to improve agility, customer experience and operational efficiency.
  • Technology Operations & Service Excellence: Ensure world-class network and IT availability, performance, scalability and quality of service across BTC’s technology environment.
  • Cybersecurity & Resilience: Provide executive oversight of cybersecurity, technology risk, business continuity and disaster recovery to safeguard critical infrastructure, systems and information assets.
  • Innovation & Emerging Technology: Identify and leverage emerging technologies including 5G, IoT, cloud, automation and software-defined technologies to create new capabilities, improve efficiency and enable future growth.
  • Technology Investment & Commercial Value: Provide strategic oversight of technology CAPEX and OPEX, ensuring disciplined investment prioritisation, cost optimisation and measurable returns from major technology programmes.
  • Governance & Regulatory Compliance: Maintain strong technology governance, architecture, controls and regulatory compliance across network and IT operations.
  • Strategic Partnerships & Vendors: Build and manage high-value relationships with global technology partners, vendors and other strategic stakeholders to strengthen BTC’s technology ecosystem.
  • Leadership & Capability Building: Lead, develop and inspire high-performing technology, network, IT and security teams while building the capabilities and culture required for continuous innovation and execution excellence.
 
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunications, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or a related discipline.
  • A relevant Master’s Degree, MBA or equivalent postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage.
  • At least 12 years’ progressive experience within telecommunications and/or a complex technology-intensive environment, with significant experience at senior leadership or executive level.
  • Demonstrable experience leading large-scale telecommunications infrastructure, network modernisation and/or enterprise IT transformation programmes.
  • Strong technical understanding of mobile and fixed networks, cloud technologies, cybersecurity, digital platforms and emerging telecommunications technologies.
  • Experience operating within a highly regulated, commercially driven telecommunications environment.
 
The ideal candidate will be an accomplished and forward-thinking technology leader with the ability to translate emerging technologies into commercial value, superior customer experience and sustainable competitive advantage. They will combine deep telecommunications and IT expertise with strategic judgement, execution discipline and strong commercial orientation.
