Chief Investment Officer


Botswana Development Corporation  is looking for an exceptional Chief Investment Officer (CIO) to lead and direct the development and execution of the Corporation’s investment strategy, plans, policies and procedures through the identification of sustainable investment opportunities and the growth and management of BDC’s investment portfolio.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and execution of the organisation’s investment and divestment strategies to drive economic growth, portfolio value, and diversification.
  • Identify, evaluate, and structure high-growth investment opportunities locally, regionally, and internationally, ensuring rigorous due diligence and sound financial modelling.
  • Oversee the performance and development of the investment portfolio, ensuring strong returns, balanced asset allocation, and alignment with corporate strategy.
  • Drive stakeholder engagement and partnership development, maintaining strong relationships with government, regulators, investors, and portfolio companies.
  • Provide strategic investment advice to Executive Management and the Board, supported by clear reporting, insights, and performance updates.
  • Ensure effective risk management and compliance, leading the development and implementation of investment policies, controls, and governance frameworks.
 
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
  • A professional qualification (ACCA, CFA, CIMA) or a Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Commerce, or related fields.
  • Minimum 5 years in a senior management role in investments, corporate finance, banking, or mergers & acquisitions.
  • Strong experience in deal origination, financial modelling, structuring, evaluation, and execution.
  • Proven leadership of investment teams and portfolio management.
  • Experience with mergers and acquisitions and large-scale transactions.
